I’m 5’2 and have a pretty decent sized chest (36B) for an Asian girl. They look good in a bra, but without clothes on I can’t say I like the shape of my breasts. I am in my thirties and am barely an A. My breasts are nicely shaped but so small. I have a boyfriend and I adore him and I think he will ask me to marry him soon. If you get them, DON’T GO TOO BIG. I’m a natural DD and wish they were smaller. Don’t go bigger than two sizes. Huge boobs do not mean a better, happier life.

The Return of Silicone Implants

On July twenty-eight 2005, the FDA ended a 13 year ban on silicone-gel Breast Implants and issued a letter of approval to Mentor Corp allowing the reintroduction of these controversial implants into the medical marketplace. This move came about as Mentor Corp. persuaded the FDA that its newer silicone implants are less dangerous and even more durable than older versions. The company will employ these implants only under the following strict safety conditions approved per FDA guidlines.

- Prospective patients must sign a consent form acknowledging that they realise the risks of a silicone breast implant including the fact that they may break and require replacement or even removal.

- Mentor is only allowed to sell Silicone Breast Implants to board-certified plastic surgeons who complete a successful practical training program to learn how to insert these implants in a way that minimizes the odds of tears and breakage.

- Mentor must make and maintain a registry to track the implant patients long term results.

- Patients must be educated about the fact that if an implant breaks, the effect of the breakage occasionally does not cause immediate symptoms. Further, patients are advised to have an MRI after five years and two years thereafter to check for breakage.

- Mentor must conduct a 10 year study to determine the percentage of breast implants that will break in that time.

- The implant study must be audited by an independent committee.

- The FDA will review the results of the Mentor breast implant program in five years to verify that the implants are performing as expected.

Based on data from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 334,052 breast augmentations were performed in the United States in 2004, mostly using salt water filled implants being sold without restriction. Consumer studies predict that if the silicone breast implants return to the market, 200,000 women will visit plastic surgeons to get them in the first year. Health concerns aside, silicone implants have a more “natural” appearance and consistency than the saline version, and are therefore preferred by consumers.

Silicone-gel breast implants were first introduced in 1962 and were banned in 1992 amid health fears. Research since then has shown no statistical correlation between silicone breast implants and cancer or even rare auto-immune diseases such as lupus. A select few women will swear that their health deteriorated from the moment they received their implants, however this is anecdotal evidence. When researchers do studies comparing a large group of women with implants to an equal-sized group without them, no difference between the 2 groups is observed in the number of women with tumors or autoimmune diseases.

The most commom problem reported is formation of excess scar tissue around the breast implant due to a foreign-body reaction. If it’s localized, it can cause traction and rippling effects in the appearance of the implant. If the scar tissue entirely encircles the implant the condition is called capsular contraction. These scars can mold the implant into an unnatural rounded shape, so that the implant patient appears to have a baseball stuck under the skin on her chest. This condition develops more frequently with smooth-walled silicone implants, though it occurs to a lesser extent with saline implants as well. Implants set behind the chest muscle have a much lower incidence of this problem. As the scar tissue tends to re-form, surgeons can every now and again break the scar tissue manually. However this is proscribed by the manufacturer, as it can break the implant and void the manufacturer’s warranty. Typically, patients with breast implant contractures require follow-up surgery.

Surprisingly , the asthma drug Accolate has proven useful in preventing and even reversing capsular contraction, though months of drug treatment may be necessary.

Other possible complications include seroma (a collection of serous fluid), hematoma (blood), synmastia (breasts that pop up to be fused in the center), bottoming out (implant slides too far down the chest), double-fold ( the implant’s outline doesn’t corresspond to the natural crease of the breast), deflation (the implant breaks), tissue necrosis (localized demise of tissue) and infection.

No one can tell you that. Some come out better than others, and it depends on the type of implant you get, how you get them inserted and the size of your implants now.
There are silicone, gummy bear, and saline. However, if you are under 22 you can only get saline. Then you can get high profile, low profile (I recommend low), teardrop or round, under the muscle or over, etc.
Gummy bear are typically the most “real” feeling. If you are an A cup now, they will seem more fake if you get implants, compared to someone that is a B cup. More breast tissue makes a more natural implant look.
I don’t know the type of implant you are talking about but if you make an appointment for a consultation the doctor will tell you the best options for your body.
I have saline, low profile, under the muscle, through the nipple, and round shaped. They do not look like fake boobs when I’m not wearing a bra (though they can when I am wearing one), and are very bouncy and squishy. I was a B cup, so I already had breast tissue.
The strong pain lasts about two weeks and all the pain is gone in about 2 months.

]]> Why do so many women get implants?

£3,000 to £5,000 is a lot of money to spend on making a body part bigger.  In my previous work as a Grid Model I was always shocked at the high percentage of young girls that I worked with who had had breast enlargements or who were planning too.  The girls and I were only earning an average of £120 a day and I found it scary that they would spend up to £5,000 on having their boobs made bigger.  It was even more shocking to hear that some who had already had surgery were planning and saving up to have their boobs made even bigger or maybe have them reduced!  Most already had great boobs in the first place!  Why not just put in some chicken fillets under the lycra grid girl outfits for £14.99 or if you want really big boobs put another pair of breast enhancers under your outfit for £19.99!

£3,000 to £5,000 is more acceptable to spend on improving your body if you are a millionaire and already own a house without a mortgage, own a flash car, have savings and can afford holidays.  However, so many young girls that have breast enlargements just have debt and they believe that having bigger breasts is so important and it will change their live.

I think girls justify this huge amount of money because they must believe that bigger breasts will equal a better job, make them more appealing to men, help their confidence, make them happier and maybe even make them more money in the long run.  Maybe, it will help them bag a rich man.  Or, maybe they will get a promotion.  Or, maybe bigger breasts are just in fashion.

I don’t really know why girls and women find hard fake breasts more appealing than their natural small breasts in the first place?   Or why do women want something hard and potentially dangerous put under their skin?  Will big fake breasts really make you happier? 

I do not disagree with implants and there are a lot of really positive cases where implants have changed women’s lives for the better, and this can only be a good thing.  I am not criticising Breast Implants.  What I am trying to point out is that I find it very worrying that girls can spend so much money on cosmetic surgery when most are gorgeous in the first place.  I find it especially shocking that girls prioritise breast implants over other investments when they have hardly any money and perfectly adequate breasts in the first place.

Cohesive silicone gel breast implants represent the latest development in the long and sometimes sordid history of the breast prosthesis.  Silicone was the original material chosen to fill the very first marketable modern breast implants and this material is still used today, decades after the first breast augmentation surgeries were performed.  However, the newest type of silicone prosthetics have been greatly revised to eliminate many of the concerns inherent to previous generations of breast implants.

The original breast implants were silicone sacs filled with viscous liquidy silicone gel. This thick filler gel and durable outer shell were well received and proved themselves resistant to damage and rupture.  However, the implant lacked a soft and realistic feel which led the next 2 generations of Silicone Breast Implants to feature thinner shells and more liquid-like silicone filler material.  These were the implants most responsible for the sudden surge in implant based litigation, since a great number failed.  A majority of women with these redesigned implants endured problematic ruptures and leaks, as well as migration of the thin silicone filler throughout their bodies.  This occurrence was made worse by the lack of patient education and risk acknowledgments by the manufacturers, including the infamous Dow-Corning Company.

Later generations of Silicone Implants did far better in holding up to the test of time by once again featuring a thicker outer shell and a thicker liquidy silicone filler.  However, the damage had already been done and the silicone implant seemed doomed to die a slow and deserved death due to its former reputation.  That is until a new development was made which created the finest implant prosthetic to date.  This is the latest model cohesive silicone gel breast implant.

Cohesive silicone gel is a revolutionary material which is not like any other silicone filled prosthetic of the past.  The filler material is not a liquid at all.  In fact, it is a jelly solid, much alike in texture to gummy bears.  Many patients lovingly call these medical devices gummy bear breast implants for that reason.  Cohesive silicone gel implants will not leak or rupture, since there is no separate internal filler which can escape the shell.  The filler is bonded together and can be cut cleanly with a sharp implement, so even if the outer shell is compromised, there is no danger of silicone migration throughout the body.

Although cohesive silicone implants are light years ahead of past silicone prosthetics, they are far from perfect.  Some patients report that the implants are still too firm and lack the life-like feel of older model silicone liquid implants.  This is the classic trade off of feel for safety.  Additionally, silicone implants, regardless of which type, can not be used during transumbilical implantation procedures, which are designed exclusively for saline filled breast prosthetics.   Therefore, the newest cohesive silicone implant will not dominate the market entirely, even if they do catch on to the degree anticipated by the best cosmetic surgeons.

I’m going to get breast augmentation and lift for my 18th birthday (not because I’m vain, I have a genetic problem and I would have to get them lifted anyway with severe scarring so I might as well get implants with it to make them look good). I originally thought about getting round ones but I have no volume in my upper chest. I can feel my chest bone stick out and then my breasts start. So I was wondering if teardrop implants could give me volume to my upper chest. My breasts cannot be lifted/implanted in a “standard” way due to their position (otherwise I would just get the lift because I’m a C cup and call it a day but a lift will not actually position them correctly to wear they look any better, it will just take away excess skin). Also my breasts have a lot of stretchmarks. Do you have any personal expierences/advice? Please post them. Thanks. Hello, I have implants myself. Of course your PS will really be the one you should ask as to what is best for you. However, I do know that most PS recommend round over teadrops. There have been a few problems with teardrop implants shifting and rotating. Teadrops can sometimes give a more natural look to the breast but round implants can give just as good results and often better in my opinion. As far as upper pole fullness, that will depend on the profile of the implant. Teardrops just give a natural slope to the breast and not fullnes up top. Mine are round high profile- which gives good projection and lots of upper pole fullness. Low profile = wider implant and less projection. Also, I think teardrops only come in cohesive gels and here in Canada at least- you must be of a certain age( I believe 21 or 22 ) before a PS will let you have cohesive gels. So that would rule out teardrops for you unless you are willing to wait or maybe the US (if that’s where you are ) has different regulations. As for stretch marks, implants can make stretch marks less visible as long as the implants aren’t huge and stretching the skin or they could make it worse. I’ve heard bio-oil is great for stretch marks as well as for scars. I never used it myself and my scars healed great by themselves but lots of girls on my implant forum use it and really love it. Anyway, it is confusing so it really is best to find a PS who is willing to take the time to answer all of your questions. By the way- I was very nervous about going under and the whole operation because i had never had an operation before- it was a breeze. painful for a few days but nothing unbearable and totally worth it. Your procedure will be more complicated because of the lift but I really hope that you will be happy with the results and happy with yourself. It is horrible to be young and at your prime but not happy with your body. Don’t let people tell you that your vain for getting cosmetic surgery because what you said is true- if most were in your shoes they would probably do the same thing. I have lost a significant amount of weight and am looking into getting Breast Implants as mine are completely deflated now. Anyway, I was reading up on them and it says depending on which surgery is being performed–augmentation or reconstruction–the type of implant used will be determined. I would like saline implants, but apparently for augmentation surgery patients older than 22 they have to get silicone. I don’t know which surgery I will be having. I thought it was reconstruction, but now Im unsure. If I knew the difference I would be able to tell which I need and if I will be able to get the implants I want. I had a silicone breast augmentation when I was 18 because of some sort of hormone problem they never figured out (I never developed breast tissue). I’m 20 now, and last 6 months I’ve had TONS of random health problems like swelling stomach, stomach pain, fatigue, just feeling tired and weak, neurological things like shooting nerve pain and small muscle spasms, pressure in my forehead (tension headache?), sore throat on my left side….a few other minor things.

My parents and I were talking about it and we think they all must relate somehow, I mean, it all started happening at the same time.

I would assume that the saline is better because if they break saline solution should match the PH in your body and be easy absorbed.

I would encourage you to rethink the operation because putting a foreign object in your body may not be the best thing in the world for you. Before doing the operation I would have the Dr take a piece of the plastic that will hold the saline solution and surgically put a small piece under the skin on your arm. Lets check to see if your immune system will tolerate that form of plastic. Some people can and some cannot. Have blood work done so you can have a base line for your physician to review after the plastic has been inserted under the skin in your arm. We are looking for an allergenic reaction. If the skin on your arm turns red then the plastic is a bad fit for your body.

A B is just fine and going to a C may make you feel better but this is a long term decision and I hope you think your way through it carefully.

I am a mammographer and I have felt/touched hundreds of breasts with implants. I don’t like them at all. The majority are hard to the touch and are not pleasing to the eye. About half of my implant patients regret their decision. Interestingly enough, almost ALL of my breast reduction patients say they would do it again. The other problem I have with implants could be even more important. It is much harder to find a breast cancer on mammogram films when the woman has implants. The implants cover the majority of the breast tissue. The look like big white balloons on the film. If there is a breast cancer under that white balloon, you will never see it. If you absolutely are decided to get implants, have them inserted behind the chest wall. It won’t interfer quite as much with your mammograms that way.
