Males who Desire to Enlarge Their Breasts

A growing population of males desire larger breasts of their own. Find out why more and more men are seeking male breast enlargement.

Gynecomastia – male breast enlargement – is a problem faced by thousands of men who often resort to surgery to correct their condition. What you might not realize is that there is a growing population of males who actually embrace breast enlargement!

So what kind of a man wants bigger breasts? I have identified three categories of males seeking the curves once thought to be reserved for women:

1. Transsexuals. Male to female transsexuals are females who were born with male bodies. While many transsexuals opt for sexual reassignment surgery, developing breasts is often the first step in their journey towards becoming women.

2. Crossdressers and transgenderists. Unlike transsexuals, crossdressers and transgenderists view themselves as having both male and female aspects. Not all crossdressers seek physical change, but those who do usually consider breast enlargement a priority.

3. Straight males. The third – and most surprising – category consists of those who consider themselves to be 100% male. These men have no desire to crossdress or imitate women – they simply admire shapely breasts and wish to have a pair of their own.

There are many options for male breast enlargement including surgery, hormones, and natural methods such as herbs or breast pumps. While most transsexuals need synthetic hormones and breast implants to attain their goals, these methods are often considered too risky for the casual crossdresser.

Recovery Tips After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Breast augmentation surgery is helping women around the world to obtain the figure they desire. While there are still some drawbacks to the procedure, it has become extremely safe and efficient over the years.

The recovery time after breast augmentation surgery is now relatively short; however, by following a few simple steps you can make sure that you increase your heal time and reduce your chances of complications.

Get The Facts

The first step to a great recovery is planning well. Before visiting a plastic surgeon, decide what look you want. You need to be able to describe you desired look to the your doctor so that she can decide what type of procedure is needed.

Additionally, once you have decided to have your surgery, you need to get all your directions in writing. What are you supposed to do before the surgery? What prescriptions do you need to have filled? What are your instructions for after surgery? You can’t remember everything so either write it down or have your doctor write it for you.

Plan for Comfort

You need to plan to be comfortable after your surgery. Make sure you have lots of pillows, books, and movies within your reach. You will also want to purchase groceries for the next couple of weeks. Additionally, you should plan for your transportation to and from the procedure as you won’t be able to drive yourself home after surgery. Make sure that there is someone who can come by or call and check on you each day for the first week.

Purchase a Compression Garment

A compression garment is an item that most surgeons will want you to purchase. While you may receive one after your surgery, you will usually need to order this on your own. Compression garments help improve the blood flow in the area, and they also help reduce swelling more quickly.

Compression garments can be found at certain medical supply stores and online. If you can find a store that sells compression garments, you can have them custom size you based on your future look. Make sure you know your exact measurements after the procedure so that you can order a correctly size compression garment.

Avoid Infection

In order to stave off infections, you need to follow your doctor’s orders to the tee. You will probably need to start taking an antibiotic a few days before your surgery and continue after the procedure. You should take the antibiotic until it’s finished or until your doctor tells you to stop; otherwise, you might be opening yourself to infection.

After your breast augmentation surgery, you will definitely need time to recover. After receiving your breast implants, most patients need a week off before returning to a normal routine and you may need a month or more before you can be involved in strenuous exercise.

Choosing The Right Type Of Breast Implant

Never in history has there been a greater choice of breast implants for women and in some cases, men. The world has come a long way from paraffin wax and glass balls, which were put into women’s bodies in the earlier part of the last century.

In the 1960′s, women had silicon injected into their breast cavities, and then a silicon-filled breast implant was generally used. When health issues, infections and even deaths arose from these, the government banned most of these types of implants.

Now, there’s a wide array of much safer implants to choose from, and the choice a breast surgery candidate makes depends largely on their needs and desires, rather than what the implant maker would rather sell.

A consumer can now choose a silicone-filled implant again, after years of only being able to use saline. In recent decades, silicone-filled implants could rupture, slowly leaking the substance into the bloodstream and ultimately causing painful swelling and scar tissue all over the body. Now, there are implants available which have silicone made into a gel, so in the event that the implant does rupture, the silicone will not run all over the body but would stay within the broken implant. Additionally, these implants have texture put on them, much like that of an orange peel, to prevent a ‘scar tissue capsule’ which can form around the implant and eventually rupture it.

Many people would question why a consumer would choose silicone in the first place, if there were the potential for problems. Many people think silicone has a much more natural feel to them, like real breast tissue. This is a good choice for people who have little of their own natural breast tissue. And, as noted above, there are now several models available, which have been approved by the FDA.

So why consider saline-filled implants as well? Simply, they are much easier to insert. Because they can be squashed and stretched when putting into the chest cavity, a doctor can make an incision in any one of four places. For example, he or she can insert the implants through the areolas of the breast, the armpit, even the belly button. The feeling of the saline implant differs for different people, but the majority of saline implant patients are just as satisfied with the feeling of them as silicone consumers are with theirs.

Saline implants also give one the option of postoperative expansion. The surgeon can put a dime-sized port in each implant, near each incision. He or she then gradually fills a bit more volume in over time until the patient reaches her cup or volume goal. This allows skin and muscle tissue to slowly expand, too.

Shapes of implants: the type the patient chooses with the advice of his or her doctor really depends on his or her body type, bone structure, expectations of cup size and preference of silhouette.

Round implants are just that, though not quite ball shaped. They look pretty much the same from every viewpoint both pre and post operation.

Anatomical implants used to be used primarily for reconstruction purposes, but are now used for cosmetic breast augmentation as well. When looking at it from the front, the anatomical implant appears oval in shape, and if looking at it from the side, it looks like it has more volume at the bottom – a little bit conical.

Also, there is the high profile implant, which gives more fullness at the top of the breast. These implants are narrow at the base (the part that sits against your chest) and they have a mound that protrudes out. Regular or traditional implants have a large base and do not project outwards.

One Woman’s Life-changing Story: Making Decisions To Improve Her Health, Fitness And Appearance

Joanne Eddinger accomplished a major personal victory when she gradually lost more than 100 pounds. Eddinger, a nonprofit executive in College Grove, Tenn., knew the weight loss would leave her with excess skin; however, she did not anticipate the impact it would have on other areas of her body, like her breasts.

Eddinger’s new outlook on life inspired her to further improve her appearance-restoring her breast shape through breast augmentation surgery and a breast lift.

Eddinger’s story may be more common than we think. New research from the not-for-profit National Women’s Health Resource Center (NWHRC) shows that life-changing events, such as childbirth, weight loss or divorce, often change a woman’s mindset, inspiring a renewed focus on herself. This new outlook motivates many women to improve their health, fitness and, for 42 percent of women, physical appearance. Of those women motivated to improve their appearance, nearly half (45 percent) said they would consider plastic surgery to do so. These are a few findings of the Life Makeover Secrets of the Modern Woman survey, a national survey of women ages 18 to 64.

"My breasts are important to me as a woman and to my sense of femininity. For my life makeover, I regained control of my life and health by losing over 100 pounds. While I am proud of my accomplishment, I didn’t realize the impact it would have on the shape of my breasts. It was frustrating to work so hard to achieve the healthy body I had always wanted only to lose my feminine curves," says Eddinger. "I chose breast augmentation and a lift to restore the breast shape and volume that I had lost along with the weight. It was the right decision for me, and I feel more healthy and vibrant than ever before."

According to the survey, more than 90 percent of women cited the desire to reshape their breasts following a major physical change like weight loss or childbirth as the primary reason they may consider breast aesthetic surgery.

"The survey shows that women focus on themselves after life-changing events, which often leads to an increased consideration for medical aesthetic procedures to improve appearance," says Elizabeth Battaglino Cahill, executive vice president of the NWHRC. "During the past decade, we’ve seen the topic of plastic surgery-including breast aesthetics-become increasingly relevant for women. Therefore, it’s critical that we provide women the information and tools needed to make informed decisions."

The NWHRC survey specifically challenges stigmas and stereotypes associated with breast aesthetic surgery and the women who choose surgery. In fact, more than half of women surveyed (53 percent) are more accepting of breast augmentation surgery than they used to be and described women who undergo breast augmentation surgery as confident (60 percent) and feminine (61 percent). Women’s changing views may stem from personal experience, as 50 percent of women reported knowing someone who has had breast augmentation surgery.

Recent data from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) support the survey findings. In 2006, nearly 11.5 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the United States, an increase of 446 percent in the last decade. What’s more, breast augmentation surgery surpassed liposuction as the No. 1 surgical cosmetic procedure for women in 2006, with more than 380,000 procedures performed.

"The NWHRC survey results echo what I hear from patients in my practice. My typical breast aesthetic patient looks just like your sister, your neighbor or the school librarian. She’s well-educated, savvy and she has turned her attention back onto herself after years of taking care of everyone else," says Caroline Glicksman, M.D., a plastic surgeon in private practice in New Jersey. "The women who come into my practice to inquire about breast aesthetic surgery are generally looking to restore or enhance their breast shape, often after breastfeeding or surviving breast cancer, or to obtain a more proportionate body. Their decision is driven from within, as they are motivated to make a change for themselves rather than to please anyone else."

When considering breast aesthetic surgery, women should seek advice from a plastic surgeon to define realistic surgical goals and a plan for long-term breast health.
