Silicone Implants Above Muscle

Many questions about Breast Augmentation?

I am 23 and considering possible breast augmentation in the future. One breast is an A and the other a full B cup (very uneven!)…and I’m looking to get full C’s. I don’t have children yet but probably will in the future…so breastfeeding is something to consider. I’m just wondering what the best route is to take? I don’t want to look like a pornstar. I just want to look normal and EVEN-breasted. Anyone who has had this done, please give advice! Thank you!

*If you had it done, how much did it cost?
*Is it better to get implants above or below the muscle? Which way feels more natural?
*Through belly? Armpit? Breast fold?
*How long was recovery?
*Saline or Silicone?

I had a breast augmentation done in May, 2002 when I was almost 27 yrs old. I had been jokingly talking about getting one since I was a teenager, since I obviously wasn’t getting any bigger in that area. I was in good health, and an average weight. I live in Dallas, TX so the cost will really depend on the area/part of country you live in. Mine cost approx $4600 (not financed, I just paid it then, but you CAN finance at almost any plastic surgeon’s offices). I had nothing else done, though some people do everything at once. My issue was that I felt non-proportionate with the rest of my body (though my breasts were pretty much the same size as each other). To “even” myself out, I really needed a larger B or C cup. I hated to wear bathing suits and always had to buy padded bras! Now I don’t! The more natural looking implant would be placed below the muscle, though it will depend on your body type and if there are any issues that the surgeon brings up. I had mine under the muscle because I wanted it to look the best. I don’t know if the feeling is more natural either way (after time, they will become a natural part of your body), but I’ve read that the best way was under the muscle. I also chose to have them inserted UINDER the BREASTFOLD. If you didn’t know I had the surgery, you would NOT know. My scars are almost non-existent! They look great and natural and no issues. I don’t know what the advantages are to inserting in the other areas, but I know that if I was ever wearing a bra or bikini in public, NO ONE would see under my breastfold…..maybe under my arms or belly button, but not where my bra/bikini top meets the scar! The recovery was just a few days. The only pain I had was the day after the surgery (I was high on meds after coming home from the hospital the day before)….I call it the water balloon pain. It felt like I had 2 water balloons that were trying to pop out of my chest…..but I had a friend over that had had implants put in 10 plus yrs earlier, and she knew the trick—-ice packs! The pain was gone pretty quickly after that episode and I’ve been feeling great about my breast size ever since! I have heard some women get it done on Thurs. morning and are back at work on Monday. I did not have to take off work b/c it was my summer vacation of teaching. I know there are things you shouldn’t do for a few weeks- like lifting boxes or weights or heavy furniture. It’s sore for a while in that area for a few days, but the pain subsides quickly and life is basically back to normal almost 2 days afterword. I have saline, of course, because silicone was off the market when I had mine done, but I heard silicone was supposed to be better. I didn’t have a choice and I’m fine with mine…..but silicone may “feel” more natural if you were or your partner were to feel it from the outside when it’s under the breast tissue.

Your dr. will conslt with you and tell you what is possible. Women who have had kids are more likely to have more breast tissue (swells with pregnancy), so they could potentially get bigger implants. With this type of surgery, there is a slight possibility that it could affect breast feeding. No one can tell you whether it will for sure or not, though. In my case it may have affected my ability to BF, though I DID have natural twins (2 identical 7lb. hungry baby boys to feed). However, this may not be the case, since my mom had problems BF all her children (my sister and I), and my sister had issues trying to BF her child as well (all of us had problems producing enough milk, and I was the only one who had had a breast aug. or any type of breast surgery).

No dr. wants to make you look like a porn star because this reflects on his/her work. Your dr. will likely only do something that looks natural for your body. Most doctors don’t try to build you up for something that isn’t attainable, only for what’s realistic as a result. I am very happy with my 34C cup breasts and I no longer feel self conscious! I am now thinking of having liposuction on my hips/stomach (result of twin birth), though I haven’t done much to look into it yet.

The first step would be to consult with a few drs. This is generally free, and they can tell you what the results might be, and the cost. They will also show you a “book” of their work. Go with someone you feel comfortable with and trust.
