Guide to Plastic Surgery in Massachusetts

Plastic Surgeons in Worcester Massachusetts

Worcester Massachusett has recently been described as the “Medical Mecca” of Massachuestts by the Telegram & Gazette newspaper. This is particularly true as it pertains to the number of cosmetic plastic surgeons in the area. There seems to be an influx. Is plastic surgery on the rise?

Breast augmentation is the #1 cosmetic procedure according to the Amercan Society of Plastic Surgeons. The plastic surgeons in the Worcester/Boston areas seem to be trending toward scarless breast augmentation surgeries either axillarilary of umbillically placing incisions to complete hide any scarring in the armpit or belly button. Scarless breast augmentation accounted for approximately 20% of all breast augmentation surgeries.

Breast lift cosmetic surgery is the #2 surgery behind breast augmentation surgery with nearly 350,000 procedures being performed in the U.S. in 2008 lending credence that America is obsessed with breasts.

Scarless breast augmentation surgery is performed by creating an incision either in the belly button (umbilical breast augmentation) or in the armpit (axillary breast enlargement). The breast implant is placed either above or below the muscle wall in the breast by inserting it under the armpit and navigated into place with an endoscope. In an umbilical breast augmentation the implant is always placed above the muscle as visibility and manuevering cababilities are very poor.

Patients tend to be much more satisfied with the final results with the scarless breast augmentation procedures as scarring can be quite bad from the aureola to the base of the breast with the other types of procedures. This can lead to another thing to be self conscious about having wrong with the breasts.
