Breast Augmentation

Many men and women are just not pleased with their appearance. Some women want a smaller nose or larger breasts. Men may want a tighter-looking face or their love handles removed. With so many advances in technique and technology, and with many cosmetic surgery practices offering financing plans, its popularity continues to grow all across the world.

Breast augmentation for women is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed today. Women of all ages, shapes, and sizes are opting to have their breasts made larger and perkier by having what is medically known as “augmentation mammoplasty.” Breast augmentation is also referred to as breast enhancement surgery and breast enlargement surgery. Regardless of what it’s referred to, it is improving the confidence of self-esteem of hundreds of thousands of women each year in the United States.

Some of the most common indications for breast augmentation are:

  • To enhance the breasts’ shape and size
  • To correct breasts that are asymmetrical
  • To reconstruct breasts following mastectomy
  • To restore volume lost after childbirth and nursing

A highly trained board-certified cosmetic surgeon will meet with you and discuss whether or not you are a good candidate for this procedure. Many factors must be taken consideration. Not all women are able to have their breast enlarged. Your cosmetic surgeon will discuss the types of incisions that may be made, the type of implants that will be used, the size of the implants, how the implants will be placed, and what to expect while you recover from breast implant surgery.

Breast Enlargement Incision Options

Typically, cosmetic surgeons will choose one of four incision options when performing breast augmentation surgery.

  1. Periareolar: This incision is made around the nipple-areola area
  2. Inframammary: An incision is made at the base of the breast
  3. Transaxillary Endoscopic Augmentation Mammoplasty: An incision is made in the armpit and a pocket is created under the muscle to place the implant
  4. Transumbilical Breast Augmentation: The type is known as TUBA with an incision being made around the belly button

Your cosmetic surgeon will discuss which approach is best for you after a thorough evaluation.

The Transaxillary Endoscopic procedure is an extremely rare procedure and not many surgeons are able to perform this minimally invasive procedure. No scar is left on the breast at all, and the incision under the armpit will be virtually invisible after a year or so.

Another important aspect is deciding whether to use saline or Silicone Implants as they both have advantages and disadvantages. Again, this decision will be made after an extensive discussion with your cosmetic surgeon.
